Learn Why Dining Chairs Are the Most Important Thing You’ll Buy For Your Dining Room

Have you ever been stuck in a meeting or at a dinner and suddenly felt a twinge of pain in your back? Did you discreetly try to rub it out, but it suddenly felt worse. You maybe cracked your back by carefully twisting side to side and felt a moment’s alleviation only to have the pain come back shortly thereafter. You probably then tried to sit up straight and fix your posture but that didn’t help much because the pain was already set in.

As someone who’s grown up with back problems, I’ve tried almost every trick in the book. Chiropractor visits, physical therapy, core strengthening, memory foam mattress pads…the list goes on and on. And I’m not alone.

According to the American Chiropractic Association, 31 million Americans experience lower back pain at any given time. Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic in nature–meaning they are not caused by serious conditions. The causes of back pain can vary from poor diet and exercise to posture.

One thing that will set off a nerve (literally!) in my back is sitting too long. I know that’s true for a lot of people, but I also find the type of chair I’m sitting in can either help or worsen the pain in my back.

When it comes to dining chairs, I like a chair with a back that’s not too tall but also offers support and room to move. While looking for chairs that are ergonomic, I still consider the style of the chair to be just as important.

I’ve gone through our collection of high-end dining chairs and have chosen three that each offer something different, while still providing comfort to the person sitting in them.

Modern High Back Cherry Dining Chairs: With a seat back shape ergonomically like the shape of our backs, this chair offers lower back support and room for movement. This chair available as either an arm or side chair comes in cherry wood with a variety of Finish options. For added comfort you can have an upholstered seat or a flat wooden seat. This contemporary chair will instantly update a room’s appearance.

Estelle Cherry Chair: Modern minimalist is a term that comes to mind with our Copeland Estelle Cherry Chair. Its seat back (reaching just 34” at its tallest point) is slender and simple, making it stand out against the rest of our collections. The chair is available in cherry (or walnut with the Estelle Walnut Chair) with a variety of Finish options. It’s designed as a side chair and is available with a flat wooden seat.

Country Windsor Chair: Comfortable and classic these Windsor dining chairs offer you back support while maintaining a design sure to never fade out of style. Available in cherry wood with a variety of Finish options you can select either side or arm chair versions of this chair. It’s curved back allows you to sit back comfortably and it’s scooped wooden seat adds comfort while you’re sitting.

Aside from finding yourself in one of our comfortable handmade dining chairs, the American Chiropractic Association recommends some easy fixes and preventable steps for back pain.

Stretch during the day

Use proper posture

Invest in a good mattress (that’s my recommendation!)

Wear comfortable/supportive shoes

If you’re like me, comfortable shoes definitely comes second to shoe style, but it doesn’t have to be that way for your dining chairs or your furniture in general!
