Vote for Middlebury College’s Solar Home, “Self Reliance” in Solar Decathalon

September 29th, 2011 by Peggy Farabaugh

Solar-decathalon At Vermont Woods Studios Furniture we've been supporting the students at Middlebury college who designed and built an innovative, energy-efficient solar home for the annual Solar Decathalon in Washington DC.  We donated a sustainable wooden bed made out of local maple to help furnish the house.

Now the competition is in full swing and open to the public to vote on your favorite entry.  If you're a green energy buff, have a look at the 19 futuristic homes that students from all over the world have built and submitted for the contest.  They're pretty amazing!  Hopefully they are a glimpse into the future.

I don't want to sway your opinion or anything but if you wanted to vote for Vermont's own Middlebury College entry, Self Reliance that would certainly be a good, solid choice.  It's the only entry with both indoor and outdoor growing space and it even collects condensation from the HVAC system for watering the plants.

Be sure to vote NOW.  Tomorrow, September 30 at 7:00pm is when voting ends.  Best of luck, Middlebury!
