Isn't this a beautiful home office

It sort of makes me think I would get a much higher level of work done in it… what do you think?

This desk, bookcase and file credenza are part of our new Modern Shaker Furniture Collection and Manjula has them on sale until May 17th, 2011.

Everything is handmade in Vermont by Vermont craftspeople, using natural solid wood and clear  non-toxic finishes.  We've had great feedback from customers who recently received some of our first orders from this collection. You can check out customer comments at the independent third party website, GreenPeople.org or on our Facebook page.

Tiger-conservation I’ve been trying to draw attention to the link between tiger conservation and furniture buying for years.  But somehow it seems such a stretch to explain the connection that it gets lost in the ether.  No one has noticed my efforts.

This week though, Rebecca gave me a big hand with her fabulous photoshop skills.  Check out this new tiger-conservation page she posted on our Vermont Woods Studios Furniture website.

It’s hard to believe but there are only about 3200 tigers left in the wild.  This tiger subspecies, the Siberian Tiger– the world’s largest cat is literally on the brink of extinction with only about 400 individuals remaining in their natural habitat.  If you can’t stand the idea of letting these magnificient creatures disappear forever on our watch, help us spread the word.  Follow us on twitter, fan us on facebook.  There IS something you can do about keeping tigers on this planet for your children and grandchildren to marvel at.

Made-USA-American Many thanks to Marcie Gabor and the fine folks at Made In The USA Brand for awarding Vermont Woods Studios Handmade Furniture their prestigious American made brand and logo certification.  Only about 100 American businesses have earned this distinction and we are proud to be one of them.  All of our furniture is indeed Made in the USA– all handmade in Vermont actually.

Marcie published an interview with us on her blog last week, highlighting the question, "Do You Know Where Your Furniture Comes From?"  More and more our customers are interested in this issue and wanting to make sure their furniture is made of sustainably harvested wood and crafted in America.  If you have a business that makes all of your goods in the USA, give Marcie a call and help spread the word about American made products.

Made-america

Manjula sent me this article she found on the Made In USA website.  We have an active campaign to raise awareness about where your furnitue comes from and why it's important to buy furniture and other goods that are Made in America.  Thought you might be interested to read this:

John Smith started the day early,
having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 am.

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking,
he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG),
and put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA),
designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and
tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).

After cooking his breakfast in his new
electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA),
he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO),
to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN)
to the radio (MADE IN INDIA),
he got in his car (MADE IN JAPAN),
filled it with GAS (from SAUDIA ARABIA)
to continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day
checking his Computer (made in MALAYSIA),
John decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL),
poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE)
and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA),

and then wondered why he can't find
a good paying job in AMERICA.
