In Vermont, spring and summer slip by all too quickly so when winter finally rolls out of sight, we want to get outside and relax in the sunshine ASAP. And that’s where the beauty of Polywood all weather outdoor furniture comes in so handy. There’s no longer any need to go schlepping downstairs to the basement and dragging heavy outdoor furniture outside before you can relax on the patio in the warm sunshine.
Polywood is new type of American made, recycled plastic furniture that can be left outdoors all winter long! It’s basically impervious to harsh weather such as rain, snow, ice, and salt water. Made from recycled milk jugs, Polywood is a thick, heavy, dense plastic designed to replicate high quality tropical lumber like mahogany and teak. It’s maintenance free and insect, mold and mildew-proof. And Polywood is available in natural colors, plus white, black and a wide variety of vibrant contemporary colors. Best of all, polywood colors are infused throughout the recycled plastic lumber, rather than just on the surface so there’s no need to ever refinish. Hooray!
Now your Springtime routine of lugging furniture to the patio, scrubbing it clean, scraping old paint and applying new paint pretty much boils down to this: pour wine, sit on your Polywood with a book and relax in the sunshine.

Polywood Outdoor Furniture
We have only been able to find one manufacturer that fits our customer’s 5 point criteria, and that is Polywood.
1. Zero Maintenance
Polywood is constructed with recycled plastic lumber, which is designed to resist fading; won’t splinter, crack, or rot; and never requires refinishing.
2. Sturdiness and Durability
Polywood is as thick and heavy as conventional wood lumber, assuring that it will hold up for heavy use or won’t blow all over your yard.
With 20 collections and 13 colors to choose from, there’s a piece of Polywood outdoor furniture for all tastes.
90% of Polywood’s lumber is made from post-consumer recycled plastic. Typically, containers such as water bottles, milk jugs, ect. The average Polywood adirondack chair requires 500 milk jugs to manufacture.
5. American Made
Polywood is 100% made in America for over 20 years and is the premiere plastic outdoor furniture maker in the industry. In recent years, there have been a lot of companies trying to produce a similar product, but Polywood innovated this process, and no one can beat the original.
We offer the full Polywood product line, and you can check it out on our website. As an authorized Polywood dealer, we try to keep it competitively priced, tax-free, and offer free shipping. If you have any questions about our Polywood outdoor furniture, feel free to contact us.
For awhile I thought we might sneak through March without our annual Spring snowstorm, but obviously I was wrong. The good news is that today is just one of those spectacularly beautiful, crisp winter days where the fresh snow is glistening in the sunshine, against a blue sky background. Not to be ungrateful, but it’s just that I’m kinda over winter at this point.
I keep seeing photos of our new Polywood recycled plastic outdoor furniture coming across my desk. Check out the Club Deep Seating Outdoor Furniture pictured above. With unseasonably warm weather in Vermont for the past few days, I have found myself longing for summertime. On top of the weather having me think that summer is around the corner, I have also been fully immersed in Polywood Outdoor Furniture.
If you’re new to our blog or company, let me introduce you to Polywood. It is our only line of furniture that is not made of hardwood, and for good reason. Most of the outdoor furniture you see at other stores are made from teak, redwood, or cedar, because they can withstand some outdoor conditions. However, there is a better material that outdoor furniture can be made out of, and that’s recycled plastic lumber. It replicates the texture (minus the wood splinters) and beauty of real wood, but is more durable to withstand harsh weather conditions.
We normally don’t go around promoting wood alternative furniture (we are Vermont Woods Studios, afterall), but there really isn’t anything better than Polywood Outdoor Furniture. Not only can it withstand extreme weather conditions (including snow), but there is virtually no maintenance. With wood outdoor furniture, you need to reapply protective overcoats, stains, or paint, none of which you have to do to Polywood.
This week Vermont Woods Studios has been busy putting up the new 2013 Polywood pieces, sets, and collections. Polywood Outdoor Furniture Sets are brand new in 2013!
A new collection that we have added is the Polywood Coastal Outdoor Furniture. This exciting new collection is very different from our other collections of Polywood. Unique to this collection is the sling fabric chairs. The sling fabric conforms to your body with firm support. These chairs will be especially nice in the summertime, because the sling fabric allows the chairs to breathe, which means you won’t stick to them on a hot July day! The frames of the chairs are made in your choice of 7 Polywood recycled plastic lumber colors. The collection is comprised of four chairs and three outdoor furniture sets. There is the Coastal Folding Chair, Coastal Dining Chair, Coastal Counter Chair, and the Coastal Bar Chair. The new outdoor furniture sets include the Coastal 3-Piece Bar Set, Coastal 7-Piece Dining Set, and the Coastal 5-Piece Dining Set.
As you browse through our online gallery, all of our new Polywood furniture pieces will be marked by a red “NEW” sticker, like our new South Beach Ultimate Adirondack with Hideaway Ottoman and Euro SOLID Chaise.
What do you think? Will you be adding Polywood to your patio or deck this year?
Our kids are older now, but I remember when they were little we were always worrying about them getting hurt around our furniture. Sharp edges and corners, glass tops, coatings and finishes were all a concern.
Well, now parents are getting much smarter about choosing kid-friendly furniture. One option is to bring the beautiful, modern outdoor furniture that's become so popular over the last few years– inside.
Check out this outdoor polywood furniture, It doesn't look kid-friendly does it? It looks like (and is) stylish, high quality, luxury furniture. But guess what it's made of? Recycled milk jugs. It's all non-toxic, inert, virtually indestructible, super easy to maintain and guaranteed to last a lifetime. There's no glass, no finish or sharp edges. Furthermore, you can choose from dozens of durable Sunbrella fabrics for the cushions without worry about spills and dribbles. The deep seating mission collection shown here offers a choice of outdoor faux leather cushions or Sunbrella fabrics.
Parents of small children: give it some thought! Bring the outdoors furniture in.
Isn't it ironic that most things made of plastic are used only once and then thrown into the trash, although plastic itself is a material that lasts forever– that the Earth simply cannot digest? In fact, scientists tell us that every bit of plastic that has ever been created still exists, except the small amount that has been incinerated (which has become toxic air pollution).
It's probably not realistic to think we can eliminate single use plastics, like grocery bags and water, milk and soda bottles so perhaps the next best thing is to recycle them. Can you believe this high end outdoor furniture that looks like teak wood, is actually recycled plastic?
So are these colorful, high quality Adirondack chairs. They're made of 90-100% recycled milk jugs, while the faux teak furniture above is made from recycled plastic grocery bags. I think they're beautiful and comfy, but the coolest thing is that they last forever. Of course– they're plastic. The recycled plastic is made into faux lumber that has about the same weight and strength as teak wood. A typical chair weighs 40-60 pounds and offers unparalleled resistance to weather, mold, mildew, salt and insects. No big surprise– have you ever seen a plastic water bottle that's been corroded or eaten by bugs?
We even give this all weather patio furniture a lifetime guarantee which is pretty much unheard of for outdoor furniture. Check them out on our Vermont Woods Studios website, see what you think and let me know.
OK, I've lived in Vernon Vermont almost 15 years and I can't remember ever getting so much snow in such a short amount of time. I'm the only one in the office at Vermont Woods Studios Furniture today as my commute is pretty short.
Riley just got in from snowblowing– he said there was an additional 8 inches of snow on top of the 7 or 8 inches we plowed out of yesterday. Annette, our local weather-woman says not to put the snow blower away. There's more coming… so I decided to spend my day working on getting our new line of summer outdoor furniture up on the website. Snow-weary Northerners: check out the pictures– they'll make you feel better.
For five years our customers have been asking us to offer eco-friendly outdoor furniture that meets the same high quality standards that our handcrafted, Vermont made indoor furniture does. I'm sorry for the delay… we weren't ignoring you. We just had a lot of research and soul searching to do.
The issue with outdoor furniture is that the really high quality, solid wood furniture we were considering is of questionable origin. Teak and mahogany are about the only types of wood that would meet our standards for weather resistance and longevity but they are both rainforest woods that are often harvested illegally and unsustainably. Our company mission is founded on forest conservation principles and we've made the decision not to offer outdoor furniture made of rainforest woods.
After researching all the alternatives we selected a wood-alternative material for our first outdoor furniture line. It's called poly wood and is made of recycled beverage containers. Instead of clear-cutting engandered rainforests to make our furniture, we're taking plastic out of the waste stream. We see that as a WIN-WIN situation for the customer and the environment.
Have a look at our new outdoor patio furniture collection as it comes online. We're just starting the process of getting everything ready for the Spring season, but you can still get a good idea of what's to come. Let me know what you think of poly wood and whether you would consider it for your outdoor patio, deck or garden. It's not real wood, but it wears even better than wood– so well, that we're able to give it a lifetime guarantee just like our indoor furniture. It's good stuff– check it out!
