Copeland’s New Catalina Walnut Dining Furniture: Coming Soon!

April 13th, 2012 by Peggy Farabaugh

Copeland-furniture-catalina-dining

Walnut lovers: this one is for you! The Copeland Catalina Collection: solid walnut wood furniture for your Mid-century Modern Dining Room.

Copeland Furniture, just down the road from us in Bradford, Vermont is famous for it's modern, contemporary solid wood bedroom furniture.  A couple years ago, Copeland introduced the new Frank Lloyd Wright® Collection of authentic reproduction prairie-style furniture designed by America's foremost architect.

Well, now Copeland is introducing another new series of high end furniture, The Catalina Walnut Dining Room Collection

If you're already a fan of Catalina's mid-century modern bedroom furniture, home office furniture, and TV-media furniture, I think you're going to love the dining furniture collection.

The tables, chairs and buffets are all in sync with Catalina's retro-modern shapes and sensibilities, relying on  simple, elegant lines that have just enough curve– but not too much.  Walnut is the only wood used for the Catalina collection and it is available in both natural wood (as shown) or in a darker slate-on-walnut stain.  Dennis and Manjula are working feverishly to get all of the Catalina dining collection pieces up on our website and ready for purchase by week's end.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, give us a call.

All Copeland's furniture is 100% American made, right here in Vermont.

Lyndon Furniture’s New Pedestal Tables

April 9th, 2012 by Peggy Farabaugh

Vt-modern-pedestal-tableOur friends at Lyndon Furniture in Lyndonville, Vermont have come out with a number of exciting new solid hardwood furniture designs this year.

One of my favorites is this Vermont Modern Pedestal Table.  Pretty charming, don't you think? I love the quiet curves and contemporary cottage styling.

It's definitely a high-end piece, handmade of eco-friendly, solid organic wood: natural cherry, walnut, oak or maple. And it works well in either a formal dining room or casual kitchen.

Here's another version of it:  the rectangular table.  The shape of the table top can be customized in round, square, rectangular or oval.

So many possibilities!  You can customize online or give Shannon a call.  And Lyndon Furniture is furniture you can feel good about.  It's eco-friendly, 100% made in America and backed by a lifetime guarantee.

The 3 Best Features Of Faux Wood All Weather Outdoor Furniture

April 5th, 2012 by Peggy Farabaugh

Faux-wood-furniture-poly

Many times customers who come to us looking for real wood (usually teak or mahogany) outdoor furniture opt instead for our "faux wood" Polywood all-weather furniture

Why?  Well although we love the warmth and integrity of real wood, it's is increasingly being seen as inappropriate for outdoor, all weather furniture.  The main issue from an environmental standpoint is durability and longevity.  Eco conscious customers are looking for furniture (both indoor and outdoor) that's built to last a lifetime… stuff that's not going to end up in a landfill.  So for all you wood lovers (myself included), here are the:

Three Best Features Of Faux Wood All Weather Outdoor Furniture

  1. Faux wood, Polywood furniture doesn't rot, mold, mildew, crack, flake or warp like real wood outdoor furniture does
  2. Faux wood, Polywood furniture is maintenance free. No more scaping, sanding or painting.  It's made to rest and relax in, rather than create work at the end of the season
  3. Faux wood, Polywood eliminates the need for winter storage.  You can leave your polywood furniture outside all winter.  So you save storage space, you save wear and tear on your back (remember wood and polywood furniture are heavy).  And you save the time it takes to haul that heavy furniture around every Spring and Fall

Now I know how hard it can be for wood lovers to come to terms with buying "fake wood".  I never would have considered it myself if I hadn't seen the statistics our environmental conservation partners are citing about the rate we're losing the world's precious rainforests.  But as I started to look into Polywood and try out their "faux wood" furniture I became hooked.  It looks fabulous, it's very comfortable and it's maintenance-free.  It's the clear environmental and design/style choice for all weather outdoor furniture.

At Vermont Woods Studios, as wood furniture makers, our mission is built upon forest conservation.  We're especially committed to preservation of the rainforests– the places where teak and mahogany outdoor furniture originate.  In concert with rainforest protection groups worlwide, such as Rainforest Relief, we'll continue to work showcasing better alternatives to outdoor furniture made of tropical woods as part of our rainforest conservation efforts.

Still not convinced?  Here's a few more reasons to buy polywood "faux wood furniture".  Check them out and let us know what you think.

A Luxury Mid-Century Modern Home in Vermont

March 21st, 2012 by Peggy Farabaugh

Mid-century-modern-luxury-home

We've been featuring our new mid-century modern American furniture by Copeland lately so when I came across this article about a beautiful new luxury mid-century Vermont home, I thought I'd share it with you.

The former Vanderbilt estate that sits along the edge of Lake Champlain now belongs to a Manhattan couple who've used natural materials including reclaimed barnwood and local river rocks to create a rural respite quite reminiscent of the homes of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Find a dozen more photos of this modern luxury retreat at The Globe and Mail.

We've been working with Ben Copeland and his crew at Copeland Furniture for several months now and have most of their furniture up for sale on our website at Vermont Woods Studios

Although Copeland offers a variety of American furniture styles including Shaker, Mission and Craftsman, it's their modern, contemporary furniture that's making the biggest splash with our customers.

The Copeland Astrid Bedroom Furniture Collection is at the Top of our Best Seller's list this week.  Check it out.  It's design is very minimalist with a 1950s mid century style: straight lines and deeply splayed George Jetson style legs.  Astrid bedroom furniture is available in cherry, maple and walnut wood.  The perfect style statement in modern contemporary midtown and uptown apartments in Manhattan, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC and points beyond!

The Cherry Moon Bed is a Best Seller

Over the last month or two Dennis and Manjula have added a couple hundred new Copeland American Made Furniture– beds, chests, dressers and other furniture pieces to our website.  Now we have to re-organize a bit so it's easy to find what you're looking for.

We've created quite a few new categories to browse by, including one for Furniture Best Sellers. These are the most popular pieces in our Vermont made furniture store.  Most of them will look familiar to you, especially if you have that natural, solid Shaker Sensibilty that draws many wood furniture shoppers and interior design professionals to our store.

But others are a surprise!  Copeland's modern, contemporary Catalina bedroom set and their Monterey Arts & Crafts style bedroom sets are coming on strong and fast becoming our new best sellers.  Have a look and let me know which furniture peices or collection you like best.

Our Favorite Furniture

January 10th, 2012 by Peggy Farabaugh

We've only got Kendall for a few more days before he ditches us at Vermont Woods Studios and goes back to college after a nice long winter break.  That's pretty sad because he's been cranking out the website work these last few weeks– stuff that none of the rest of us (except Manjula, of course) know how to do.

Anyway, Kendall's becoming a Facebook genie and he's set up a "Staff Picks" tab.  This week he's featuring Shannon's favorite furniture, the Modern American Dining Set.  It's a beautiful solid cherry table and benches– very simple but very elegant too.

Here it is all dressed up by our favorite set designer, Erica Ell.  If you love it as much as Shannon does, fan us on Facebook and get an extra 5% off.

Modern Shaker Furniture: An Oxymoron?

January 9th, 2012 by Peggy Farabaugh

Shaker-furniture

Shaker Furniture conjures up images of traditional New England style tables, chairs and bedroom furniture designed way back in the late 1700s by members of the The United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing, otherwise known as the Shakers.  It's really the only style of furniture that's widely agreed upon as quintessentially American and it's changed only in subtle ways over the last few hundred years.

Vermont furniture makers are perhaps the world's most diverse group of Shaker furniture makers.  Most furniture coming out of Vermont reflects Shaker values in one way or another (highest quality craftsmanship, simple functional design, elegant straight lines, finely crafted joinery such as mortise and tenon and dovetails) but each furniture maker has a unique signature on their furniture.

We've been working with Copeland Furniture recently, as we've added their bedroom furniture, TV-Entertainment furniture and home office furniture to our website.  It's interesting to see how they've evolved from building traditional Shaker Furniture (Sarah Collection) 30 years ago to ever increasingly modern furniture today.  Copeland's Lily collection blends a modern Scandinavian style with Shaker furniture design.  Their Berkeley collection is a fusion of Arts and Crafts, modern Japanese and Shaker style.

Modern-shaker-furniture

Check out these and other new collections and see how you like this modernization of Shaker style furniture.  As far as I can see, the addition of Copeland furniture to our website gives Vermont Woods Studios the most expansive and diverse selection of high end Shaker style furniture on the Internet.

High End, Modern, Contemporary Wood Bedroom Furniture by Copeland

December 3rd, 2011 by Peggy Farabaugh

Astrid-maple-bedroom-furnitureI have to share some of these beautiful photos of our New Copeland Furniture Collection as we're adding them to our online furniture store.

Tim Copeland started his company over 30 years ago, and has built a reputation for world class, handmade, high end furniture in a variety of styles and designs.  His modern mid-century Astrid, Catalina and SoHo collections are entirely different from anything we’ve ever carried before.  We've already seen interest in these sophisticated, retro designs especially from customers in urban, metropolitan areas who are looking for dramatic flair for their lofts and luxury apartment homes.

Catalina-walnut-bedroom-furniture

In addition to having a fabulous sense of style, the Copeland family is committed to making quality American made furniture by skilled American craftsmen. And they're serious about environmental conservation and stewardship.  No greenwashing here.

Soho-walnut-cherry-bedI'll be highlighting more of their collections as we work on getting pieces up on our website.  We plan to have our online store ready to roll by the end of the month, but in the meantime if you need additional information just give us a call.  Full color catalogs and prices lists are posted on the Copeland Furniture section of our website.
