The Windham County Humane Society in Brattleboro is the area’s most important resource for facilitating pet adoptions. As a previous employee of WCHS before I came to Vermont Woods Studios, they are an organization that is still very near and dear to my heart. Actually, our company is full of WCHS supporters with Michelle being a past employee and WCHS pet owner, Peggy’s cats are humane society rescues and most of the staff have furry family members of their own. I am even in the process of forming a committee to adopt a pet for Stonehurst (I know Ken and Douglas will give in one of these days. ;)).
Throughout the year, WCHS holds a variety of fundraisers to raise money for the animals they protect and care for. This Saturday is actually their largest and most significant event of the year. The annual Wags to Riches Auction is being held this weekend. This year the event will be at the Brattleboro VFW on Saturday, March 1st at 6pm. Supporters will be able to enjoy food (courtesy of Sharon Myers Fine Catering), drinks, conversation and bid on items donated by local businesses. While you bid, they’ll even have local music by Brattleboro band Butterfly Swing. The items will vary from pet store gift cards to an African Safari vacation! All of the money raised at this event will go directly to the Windham County Humane Society, which will help them to provide for more than 800 animals that will wag through their doors this year.
Vermont Woods Studios will also have some items for auction at Wags to Riches including our large cutting board and a stay at the Stratton Mountain Long-trail House. This will be the perfect opportunity to snag that cutting board that you’ve been dreaming of for a fraction of the price! You’ll also be able to chat with most of our staff who will be in attendance including Douglas, Liz, Sean, Michelle, Dennis, Kelsey, Nina and myself. Last year our staff had a great time and we brought home some amazing auction finds.
Tickets cost $40/person and can be purchased on the WCHS website, by calling their office, or at the door. Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun, so be sure to bring a friend or two! If you are unable to attend this event, there are many other ways you can support the Windham County Humane Society. You can make an online, tax-deductible, financial donation or donate items off their wishlist.

At Vermont Woods Studios Furniture we get a lot of requests to support good causes. We've listed many of the causes we support on the webpage that describes our environmental mission. Our giving is aligned with our wood furniture business and is focused on sustainable forestry, especially rainforest conservation.
If you represent a non-profit environmental organization, I have to recommend a great tool… the fundraising widget. We use one provided by The Nature Conservancy for their Plant A Billion Trees campaign.
Why do I love it so much?
Charitable Fundraisers: If you come to us with a fundraising request that fits our mission and a widget that's easy to use, we're very likely to put it up on our site and start raising money for you.
