Hardwood Dining Table

Making The Hard-Wood Decision

Your first attraction to a hardwood dining table is the color of the wood. When shopping for a new dining or kitchen table, you probably have a color or wood type in mind before you have thought about a size or a style- and that’s okay! When it comes to tables looks matter. Our online gallery mostly shows our furniture in natural cherry wood, but our tables are available in 4 types of wood: cherry, walnut, maple, and oak.  Below you will find a little bit of information about each of our wood types and how they look.

Cherry

Cherry wood is commonly identified by it’s beautiful reddish color that improves with age. Natural cherry wood starts out as a light red tone, and darkens to a richer tone over time. Cherry is one of the most sought after furniture hardwoods in the United States.

Walnut

Walnut wood is easily recognized because of it’s dark chocolate brown color. Black walnut wood is the only dark North American wood, which adds to it’s appeal as a rare, luxury type of wood. Walnut wood has become one of the most popular wood species for organic live edge tables.

Maple

Maple wood is much lighter than cherry or walnut wood. It is a white looking wood with a slight reddish-beige undertone. Maple wood  typically has an understated straight grain, giving maple furniture a smooth finish. Maple is a perfect wood for a table because of it’s strength and resistance to shock.

Oak

Oak wood is very classic. People have been making furniture out of oak wood since the beginning of time, and is most often used for craftsman-style furniture. Oak is a lighter wood, similar to maple, but has a more pronounced grain. It is common to find contrasting grain on a piece of real oak furniture. This rugged wood has very subtle color change over time.

Hardwood Dining Tables

All of these woods are very strong and make durable tables, so you can’t go wrong. Our hardwood dining tables are skillfully crafted for style, function, and generations of use. Each piece is made with sustainably harvested hardwoods. Once you decide which type of wood best fits your home and your aesthetics, use the drop down menus in our online gallery to choose between natural cherry, walnut, maple or oak wood.

Modern American Dining Furniture

Looking for real hardwood dining furniture?

Authentic, solid wood dining furniture can be difficult to find. The Internet often times misleads customers into thinking that all furniture websites carry real hardwood dining furniture. Most of the time the “real” wood furniture is really just plywood painted to look like the real thing. At Vermont Woods Studios we work extremely hard to educate our customers about quality wood furniture, and make them aware of the benefits of buying it.

All of our fine wood furniture is crafted in Vermont using sustainably harvested natural cherry, maple, oak, or walnut woods. The premium hardwood converts beautifully into dining furniture, which has the durability to last for generations. In fact, we are confident enough in our dining furniture that we back it with a lifetime guarantee!

If you’ve been thinking about new hardwood dining furniture, let us help you find the perfect pieces. Our online gallery offers 60 tables, and almost as many chair styles, so we’re sure you can find the perfect dining furniture for your home. Save up to 20% with Vermont Woods Studios' Fall Dining Furniture Sale!

September has arrived, and with it, the feeling that fall
has begun. In Vermont, the signs
of fall are: pumpkins replacing summer berries at the farm stands, pick your
own apple signs, and of course, leaves coloring our landscape. The last of the
harvest brings us some of our favorite seasonal treats, like apple cider and
pumpkin pie. With cooler weather approaching, there will be a shift to inside
dining to enjoy these seasonal decadents with family and friends. It is time to
start thinking about retiring your barbeque grill and patio furniture for the
season, and preparing your dining room for fall feasts. What better way to
spruce up your dining room than getting some new furniture? So, we're making
that easier by putting all of our hardwood dining furniture styles, including
modern, contemporary, traditional, and shaker on sale until September 18th.
Save up to 20%, plus free shipping and a lifetime guarantee.  See our online gallery for details.

Custom-walnut-slab-table Our friend David Allard and the talented furniture makers at Lyndon Furniture are always coming up with some new, exciting wood furniture design project.  Check out this huge custom walnut slab table they recently finished.  It's 13.5' long and the two planks in the top are made of 1 ¾" thick solid black walnut.

The legs are made of welded steel tubes that thread through the walnut slab top like through-tenons.  On the top, Dave left a gap between the 2 walnut slabs to allow for wood movement.  Believe it or not, even kiln-dried wood (like these walnut slabs) expands and contracts quite a bit with changes in humidity and temperature.

Such a simple elegant design, isn't it?  But as any amateur woodworker could attest, it's not one to try at home unless you've got the hand of a trained professional.  And a crane :)
