I've been reading up on some of the many types of figured maple wood:  birdseye maple, tiger maple, quilted maple, flamed maple, curly maple, striped maple, fiddleback maple, wavy maple and more.  Various types of stresses while the tree is growing (for example, bugs, injuries, weather and pressure) cause beautiful things to happen to the wood grain.

Greg picked out some striking tiger maple for the top of this custom trestle table and made the base with birdseye maple.  The combination of the two figured woods makes the table a show-stopper!

Isn't it wonderful?  I wish it was my dining table.
