Fall in Love with Your Boudoir

Yesterday I woke up to the honking of rowdy Canadian geese flying over our rural Vermont home. That seals the deal. Autumn’s here and it’s the start of nesting season – for me anyway.  In the summer I’m outside as much as possible, but fall makes me want to come in and get cozy.  How about you?  Here are four of my favorite bedroom sets to snuggle into for fall. Dress them up in layers of warm-toned sheets, duvets, pillows and throws to create your ultimate autumn sanctuary.

Vermont Shaker Four Poster Bed by Maple Corner

Vermont Shaker Four Poster Bed in Walnut
The Vermont Shaker 4 Poster bed is handmade for you by our friends at Maple Corner Woodworks in Vermont. Choose from natural solid cherry, maple, walnut, or oak wood. Canopy is optional, as are underbed storage units.

The quintessential wooden 4 poster bed! What could be more luxurious than curling up in this iconic, handcrafted bed?  It’s been the staple of traditional farmhouses and quaint country inns for centuries and there’s a reason why.  You just can’t match the feeling of luxury and comfort served up by this classic Shaker bed. Doll it up with rich, cozy colored comforters, pillows and quilts, light a couple candles and settle in with a mug of warm apple cider.  Ahhh.

season ending

Great Season Ending Savings Opportunity! This is what dreams are made of!

Oh no it’s August! You know what that means? School is back in session, days left to spend at the golf course are slipping away, the late sunsets slowly grow earlier and earlier and we find ourselves bringing sweaters with us just in case. While I hate to see Summer go, as a serial online shopper, I can’t help but love the clearance events during August.

Copeland Wave Collection
The Copeland Wave Collection in Parchment Maple

Riding The Sleep Waves

Picture this: You’re laying out in the sun at a beach. You’re the only person there. All you hear are the waves calmly crashing on the shore and the tall grass behind you shaking in the ocean breeze, maybe a distant sea bird cooing. The sun is warming you like a light blanket as you sway slowly in a hammock. You gently outstretch your fingertips and skim them through the warm, soft sand as you move.

Did you feel relaxed imagining that scene? And, are you someone who has trouble falling asleep at night? If you answered yes to the latter question then you’ve probably tried many different techniques to help get you to sleep. One strategy I use, is a technique in which you build a relaxing place in your mind until you fall asleep. Envisioning the beach scene as I described above always works for me!

Another way to help calm your mind is to create a relaxing bedroom environment. You’ve probably read design blogs that recommend soothing or muted wall colors, bedding free of busy designs and so on.

But have you thought about using your bedroom furniture as a way to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere for yourself?

Our new Copeland Wave Collection can help you do just that. The collection highlights a sleek, minimalist design that showcases innovative three dimensional carved faces on the case pieces and headboard of the beds. The carvings mimic the rippling effects of soft waves in water and are accentuated with metal hairpin legs or round tapered wood legs giving the contemporary design, an essence of mid century modern flair. The collection is handmade from maple hardwood and is available with two finish options.

Create the atmosphere you’ve been dreaming of (literally) and wake up feeling rested in our Copeland Wave Collection.

Shaker Beds | Handmade in Vermont | Solid Cherry Wood | High Quality
This is our American Shaker Panel Bed, a best loved design amongst our customers.  Like all Vermont Woods Studios fine furniture, it’s 100% American made, right here in Vermont.  Shown in natural solid cherry wood (also available in natural maple and natural walnut).

Shaker beds have been a specialty of Vermont furniture makers for over 200 years and they remain popular today.  I was helping a customer work through the process of finding the perfect Shaker bed yesterday and realized it’s not so easy.  We have almost 20 different shaker beds in our online furniture store.  All are top quality, 100% American made (handcrafted right here in Vermont) using responsibly harvested, real solid wood.

After looking at our Top 10 Shaker beds and all the different variations in design, we came up with a few subcategories that might make shopping easier for those looking for a particular style:

Traditional Shaker Beds

Four Poster Shaker Beds

Shaker Panel Beds

Shaker Sleigh Beds

You’ve probably noticed that these beds are all shown in solid cherry wood, which has a rich reddish brown color (once it has “ripened” after exposure to light). Cherry is by far the most popular wood for our customers when ordering Shaker furniture. However all of our Shaker beds are also available in three other woods: maple, walnut and oak.  Some customers even like to mix two woods together like the Sarah Shaker beds below (shown in maple and walnut).

Two Tone Shaker Beds

Hopefully this makes shopping for your new Shaker bedroom furniture a little easier.  Questions?  Come visit us at Stonehurst our new fine furniture and art gallery or contact us through our live chat, email, Facebook or phone.

Robin's luxurious, natural cherry, American Shaker Furniture Collection was last week's best seller at Vermont Woods Studios.  Design features include straight and curved Shaker lines, perfect proportions, carefully-selected extra-wide boards, 2-sided tapered posts and legs, eased edges, beveleled tops and traditional, mushroom-shaped Shaker knobs.

Pieces are available in natural solid cherry, walnut or maple wood and they are 100% USA made, Vermont made actually.

Robin also offers a sister collection to this one called the Vermont Made Shaker Collection.  There are a couple subtle differences between the two collections.  The American Shaker Furniture has arched curves along the bottom of the bed headboard and foot board and matching arched aprons along the bottom of the dressers and chests, whereas the Vermont Made Shaker Furniture has no curves or arches– all the lines are pure, traditional straight Shaker lines.

Another subtle difference is in the detail on the tops of dressers, chests and tables.  The Vermont Made Shaker Collection features straight lines and edges along the tops of these pieces, whereas the tops of American Shaker Furniture pieces have cove moldings.

When shopping, purists will typically choose the straight lines of the Vermont Made Shaker Collection while customers wanting to imbue a slightly modern flair are more apt to go for the American Shaker Style.  Last week the modernists came out ahead.

Which Shaker style do you like best:  traditional or modern?
