As the news comes out of Haiti, the tragic results of
the earthquake seem unfathomable. Mashable has
a good list of 9 Ways to Help Haiti Earthquake Relief, http://su.pr/20PbnM. Haiti is the poorest
country in the Western Hemisphere and was still recovering from deadly 2008
hurricanes when the quake struck. You may have seen pictures– and this
was before the earthquake– of Haitian women preparing mud pies to fill their
childrens' stomachs with something…anything. I can't even imagine how
the Haitian people are surviving today.
Google Crisis Response has
set up a donations page that makes it easy to donate to : UNICEF (1-800-4UNICEF), Direct Relief, Yele Haiti, Partners in Health, Red Cross, World Food
Program, Mercy Corps (1-888-256-1900), Save the Children, Lambi Fund, Doctors Without Borders, The
International Rescue Committee, and Care.
Also Haitian musician Wyclef Jean has set up an easy
way to donate: text “Yele” to the number 501501 and the Yele Haiti earthquake
fund will receive $5. The amount will be added to your next cell phone bill.
