Satisfied_customer Another satisfied customer.  There is nothing in the world that makes our job more rewarding than receiving testimonials from our customers.  This week, we got word from 7 year old Isiah, who received a Vermont Woods Studios full size, solid cherry, Mission Style Bed as a Christmas present from his Grandmother, Annette.   She reports Isiah’s accolades:

“Farmor, I love my bed!   I’ve got the best bed of anyone I know.  And I got the best sleep ever.  Farmor, there will never be another twin size bed in this house!”

Well, thanks for your feedback, Annette and Isiah.  We are thrilled to have you join our Satisfied Customer’s Club.  May you have a lifetime of comfortable nights sleep on your new bed, Isiah!

As you might imagine at a furniture store, we spend a lot of time with our customers, getting to know their needs and preferences and budgets.  It used to be that needs and preferences came first in our discussion,  but in this time of recession, the budget is almost always the main thing on peoples’ minds.  At Vermont Woods Studios we’re responding to that and looking for all sorts of ways to add value to our product, while keeping the prices affordable.  Whenever we can, we’re placing items on our Furniture Sale page and leaving them there longer than planned, if customers request that.  We’ll talk about other ways we’re working with you to create the very best furniture value for your money in the next few posts.  In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re shopping on our sustainable furniture website and looking for ways to save.  We’re always happy to help.

Modern-natural-cherry-table
Our talented craftspeople at Vermont Woods Studios have been hard at work, designing creative, new eco friendly, green furniture for you in 2009.  We'll plan to showcase some of our new arrivals on our blog.  Each piece is handcrafted here in Vermont from green, environmentally friendly wood that has been sustainably harvested from local and regional forests employing responsible forest management plans.  Our handmade furniture features natural, non-toxic finishes and customers can choose from a water-based lacquer or a natural oil finish.  Most furniture pieces are made to order, so customers have the luxury of customizing their tables, chairs, beds and cabinets if needed.  Small customizations like adding-subtacting an inch or two to make a piece fit into your space, or changing the wood species or finish are often done free of charge.

How do you like our new Modern Rectangular Dining-Conference Table and Chairs shown here in natural cherry wood?  It's a more contemporary look than much of our furniture that tends to be of a Shaker-type design, but I think it's beautiful.  I can't wait for someone to purchase the first set and send us a picture of it, all installed in their dining room.  We'll post it here on the blog, if they agree!

Annette-temp-home
Vermonters are a resilient people.  Out of the ashes of Annette's farmhouse, come her many exciting ideas and plans for a brand new, greener replica of the c. 1814 Vernon landmark we all know and love so well.  We'll plan to chronicle Annette's progress here on our
Vermont Woods Studios blog as she meets with the areas most talented green architects and builders and moves towards her vision of a natural, organic farmhouse that blends traditional Vermont style with modern, energy-efficient design.  Have a look at Annette in her temporary quarters…a mobile home that the insurance company provided so she can still be on the farm and take care of her animals.  It even matches the old farmhouse!  Life is good.

Annette-Roydons-Farm
At 2:30am on Christmas Eve
, our landlord and wonderful supporter and promoter, Annette Roydon was awakened in her c. 1814 farmhouse by the smell of smoke.  She grabbed her cell phone and her dog, Hera and bolted down the stairs and out the front door.  As she was dialing emergency-911 she realized she was standing in the freezing snow and cold with nothing on but a T-shirt.  She had just enough time to run upstairs, snatch a pair of jeans and run out, before the house burst into flames.

Thanks to the quick response of the local Vernon Fire Department and six other fire departments from neighboring towns, the fire was put out by early-morning and no one was hurt.  Although the farmhouse and the adjoining office space which was our showroom were a complete loss, the barn was saved, as were all the livestock including horses, cows and chickens.

Now that several days have gone by and we've been able to get over the initial shock, we are looking at options for moving forward and will keep you posted here on our blog.  Our online Vermont Woods Studios store is functioning just fine, with no interruption, so that much is a big relief.

Annette gives us all inspiration after losing just about every material thing she owned, including valuable artwork, jewelry and family heirlooms that had been handed down to her over many generations.  She said that the outpouring of concern and compassion and the many offers of help were a heart-warming reminder of what Christmas is really all about.  She's unbelievable, isn't she?  Thanks, Annette for your indominatable spirit.
