At Vermont Woods Studios, we use only sustainably harvested wood for our handcrafted furniture. Often our wood is harvested right here in Vermont, but depending on the availability of a particular species, it may come from neighboring states throughout New England. We are careful to ensure that our suppliers source their wood from sustainable forests that are managed by forestry professionals, through the use of responsible forest management plans. Often our customers want to go one step further than this and they ask us to use FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified wood in our furniture. The FSC is an independent, non-profit organization that works around the globe to safeguard forests, with emphasis on the world's rapidly disappearing rainforests.
We wholeheartedly support the FSC and are happy to honor requests for certified wood. There is typically a 25% premium for FSC certified products, but we are working with suppliers and have brought that down to 15% for the time being. We hope to eventually see the time when there will be no premium at all.
