We started giving gifts like this about 10 years ago and have been focusing our gift giving on such ever since. (Well...except for the kids.) In the beginning, people were a bit puzzled by it, but as the years go by they become more understanding and appreciative. I think quite a few of our friends and family members have found causes of their own that they support in this way now. My sister's favorite gift is a heifer. More on that in my next blog. I like the opportunity to give gifts that contribute to the greater good -- that's what the holidays are supposed to be about. Certainly, all things environment and endangered species-focused are great gift ideas given the attention finally being given to global warming and other environmental concerns.
